Cognitive-behavioral therapy


The client and therapist work together on defining  and understanding the raised issues by focusing on the relationship occuring between thoughts,emotions and behaviour of the person concerned as well as the impact that it has on daily functioning. In this form of psychotherapy main focus is on the difficulties of the 'here and now' -in the current life of the client.

Collectively known are: the specific goods of therapy, its duration, its duration and the strategies/methods of work, whose relevance and effectiveness is subjected to continuous assesment. The therapy usually focuses on helping the client to find ways to overcome these previously applied methods. In this process, patients are also encouraged to try new ways of coping with themselves during the time between sessions. The therapy envisages the specified number of sessions which varies depending on the type and severity of the patient's problem. Sessions usually take place once a week and last an hour. After therapy the patient and therapist usually arrange a predetermined number of (typically several) sessions in larger time itervals. These sessions are designed to uphold the effects of treatment.

What problems can be solved by cognitive-behavioral therapy?

For decades, they carried out the world's research on the effectiveness of this form of therapy. They show that cognitive behavioral therapy is particularly effective in the treatment of :

  • anxiety and panic attacks
  • phobias (inclusion social phobia, agoraphobia)
  • depression
  • obsessive compulsive disorders
  • eating disorders
  • problems occuring in case of children and adolescents
  • disorders of behaviour and emotions such as tics
  • anger
  • problems with narcotics and alcohol
  • bipolar disorder
  • posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • sleep disorders

Depending on the type and severity of the patient's problem, cognitive behavioral therapy may be used as the only treatment or in combination with pharmacotherapy.
